I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who supported the a lot of work went into this. I’m happy to share that the event was a great success, and based on the response, I’m looking forward to making this an annual event.
We had 162 registered attendees onsite, not including our vendors and volunteers (total about 250). I received great feedback from both attendees and vendors about how fun, engaging, and impactful the event was. It was great seeing people take advantage of the health screenings and resources while also enjoying Zumba, line dancing, and fellowship.
A few event highlights:
- 162 registered attendees, not including vendors and volunteers
- 51 Black men received PSA screenings
- Grady completed 42 health screenings, which included blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, and PSA screenings
39 Wellness screenings completed: Care Access provided comprehensive wellness screenings, including A1c, lipid panel, Lp(a), hs-CRP, kidney and liver health markers, and platelet count
- STI screenings were also available 19 completed, including HIV, Hepatitis C, and syphilis testing
- More than 20 community partners and vendors participated
A special thank you to Martha and Steve for taking the time to stop by and support the event while also having other priority engagements that day. I also sincerely thank the Executive Committee members who were able to show up and support the event. Your presence was greatly appreciated and the one’s supporting behind the scenes.
Some highlights from the event have already been posted on our Facebook and Instagram pages. Please be proactive in liking, sharing, and reposting the content so we can continue spreading the word about the work the NAACP DeKalb County Branch is doing in our community. Look out for the reel that should be ready by the end of the week.
I’m also looking forward to seeing how many attendees signed up to become members of our branch!
What’s Next for the Health Committee
More details will be coming soon regarding our upcoming free memory screening and medication support event. I’m excited to share that I have secured a partnership with a group of pharmacists who will provide free medication reviews, allowing participants to bring their medications and have them reviewed at no cost.
The event is also being planned to include a Dementia 101 discussion led by a gerontologist, providing valuable education about dementia, memory health, and resources for individuals and families. More details will be shared as plans are finalized.
I’m also happy to announce that the Health Committee has secured a partnership with Walmart to support all our future events. This is another great relationship that will help us continue expanding the resources and support we provide to the community.
Thank you again to everyone who supported the Health Fair. I’m very proud of what we accomplished, and I’m excited about what’s next for the Health Committee and the impact we can continue make throughout DeKalb County.
