NAACP DeKalb Community Health & Wellness Fair

IMG_7877

Health. Education. Fellowship. Impact.

The NAACP DeKalb County Branch Health Committee recently brought the community together for an exciting and impactful Health Fair and the results speak for themselves!

Approximately 250 attendees, vendors, volunteers, and community partners came together for a day focused on improving health, increasing awareness, and connecting DeKalb County residents with valuable resources.

By the Numbers

  • 162 registered attendees
  • 51 Black men received PSA screenings
  • 42 health screenings provided by Grady, including blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, and PSA screenings
  • 39 comprehensive wellness screenings provided by Care Access, including A1c, lipid panel, Lp(a), hs-CRP, kidney and liver health markers, and platelet count
  • 19 STI screenings, including HIV, Hepatitis C, and syphilis testing
  • 20+ community partners and vendors

But the day was about more than screenings. Participants enjoyed Zumba, line dancing, fellowship, health education, and community connection while gaining access to resources that can help individuals and families make informed decisions about their health.

We extend our sincere appreciation to our Health Committee, volunteers, Executive Committee members, vendors, community partners, and everyone working behind the scenes who helped make the event a success.

And We’re Not Finished!

The Health Committee is already preparing its next community health initiative, which is expected to include free memory screenings, free medication reviews with pharmacists, and a Dementia 101 discussion led by a gerontologist.

We are also excited to announce a new partnership with Walmart to support future Health Committee events, helping us expand the resources we bring to communities throughout DeKalb County.

The NAACP DeKalb County Branch believes that health equity is civil rights work. When our communities have access to preventive screenings, trusted information, and quality resources, we are stronger together.

This is what community impact looks like and we’re just getting started.
