The 75th Anniversary Commemoration of the Execution of Lena Baker

March 6-9, 2020

On March 5, 1945, a poor, Black, domestic from Cuthbert, Georgia became the only woman ever executed in Georgia’s electric chair. Lena Mae Baker’s “crime” was killing her White employer and long-time sexual abuser in self defense. March, 2020 marks the 75 th anniversary of this gross travesty of justice. A series of events, March 6-9, will be held in commemoration on the campus of Clark Atlanta University in conjunction with the 50 th anniversary of the CAU Writers Workshop Conference.

The 4–day event will feature Who Will Sing for Lena?, an award winning 1-woman play by Atlanta playwright Janice L. Liddell, with nationally acclaimed Vanessa Adams-Harris of Tulsa, OK as Ms Baker :
