‘Black Panther’ & Donald Glover Lead NAACP Image Award Nominations

Black Panther sits on his throne

One year after its release, Black Panther continues to dominate, garnering a whopping 14 nominations for the 2019 NAACP Image Awards.

Star Chadwick Boseman and director Ryan Coogler are both nominated for Entertainer of the Year along with LeBron James, Beyoncé and Regina King. The Marvel film was also nominated for Best Motion Picture along with BlacKkKlansman, Crazy Rich Asians, If Beale Street Could Talk and The Hate U Give.

Donald Glover and his hip-hop persona, Childish Gambino, were nominated for a total of five awards. Glover racked up nods for his acting and directing work on FX hit Atlanta while the show itself was nominated for Best Comedy Series. Musically, Gambino has been nominated for Top Male Performer while last year’s “This is America” is nominated for Best Song and Best Video. Glover won four Grammys, including Record and Song of the Year, Sunday night.
